Me Fitness Studios & Yoga to You PDX

FREE class alert! Yoga Synergy is the practice of energy movement and can feel similar to martial arts or Tai Chi. It's designed to move and mobilize every joint complex in the body. The movements are accessible to all levels and are based on spinal movements that mobilize the spine, expanding outward towards the arms, hands, legs, hips, feet and neck. It is a powerful way to create strength and flexibility without the heart racing, warming the body with increased blood flow. Within the spinal movements, we will learn to hold yoga postures actively, before coming into the full asana, where students will be able to find stillness. Held in Studio One, please bring a yoga mat.

Embodied Thanksgiving: Come Home to the Matter of Your Being

Deva Daaru YogaFarm

When we are worn out by the demands of everyday life, we quite literally become a drag. We cannot take a full breath, our shoulders curl forward, and our backs (seats of our history) tighten. We harbor tension in our jaws/necks/brains and experience mind pain. How can we meet ourselves where we are at? Counteract the “startle response” that becomes far too habitual?

As the holidays approach and families of all kinds gather together, our schedules quickly become insane—taking a full breath is even more challenging. It is the most vulnerable thing we do for each breath brings the exterior inwards and releases the interior outwards. What if we took a breath first? Gave ourselves the chance to notice what we value and sensed the elegance in recognizing what matters most to us—what becomes the matter of our beings?

Join Tess and a sangha of curious hearts the weekend before Thanksgiving—explore how to:
—Prepare the shoulder girdle for both back and forward bending action
—Position our shoulders on our backs (not so easy due to chronic tension and “up creep”)
—Notice when our posture caves in and what is surfacing in our hearts
—Embody structural changes to create more space for our breath and drop our minds into our hearts
—Allow ourselves to let go of something so we feel that we have all that we need

Winter Solstice: Connect to Source

Deva Daaru YogaFarm

The Winter Solstice pulls us to the source. The darkness draws us under until the depth feels like its own illumination, a radiance that stands still and tethers us to the unknown—the great mystery. When we sense this constant inner light amidst the outer cycles of illumination and reflection, we realize we can always return to the conversation at the center of our lives.

Join Tess and a sangha of bright lights this Winter Solstice and retreat within—together we will investigate:
—How we connect to source. In our culture, it can be easy to substitute interpretation for the source itself. We have to consciously take in many voices in an attempt to find the strings of truth, the chords that bind. We have to interpret the metaphors in texts written thousands of years ago to support current circumstances. We have to get beyond the limitations of words and allow for silence—there is a great symphony within awaiting our attention.
—How our practice can become postured, especially when we are experiencing loss or disconnection in the dark days. How do we bolster our well being so we become the shapers of our stories?
—The importance of feeling—and then feeling some more. If grief or loss are alive in our bodies, can we allow that heaviness to ground us, feel it as energetic without needing to attach a storyline or judgment?
—How the practice can elevate us. Where is the point within the asana where the posture holds itself? How can the trajectory of the practice support us, open us to the point where we feel the inherent lift?
—Belly-down backbends. This family of poses connect us with the earth and our nabhi centers (belly buttons)—our first place of contact with our mothers, source of divine nourishment. It is through our connectedness to this core that we restore and replenish, return to our hearts—where hearts beat as one.
—Other backbends. Backbends (especially those with our hearts drawing upward) elevate the spirit, open the heart and chest, and direct the mind outwards. They help restore dis-ease due to the retention of or inability to express strong emotions, especially anger. During the holidays (holy days), they are invaluable for cultivating whole heartedness.

Capture the Glow: Art & Yoga Retreat in the Jungle

Location: San Pancho, Nayarit, Mexico

Join Mandy Wozniak and Nicole Curcio in the jungle as we make time for art, yoga, community, beachtime and sunshine! We’ll spend seven nights and seven days at Tailwind Jungle Lodge in San Pancho, Nayarit, Mexico, as we shake off the cold winter blues and Capture the Glow!

Our small retreat community will practice art and yoga together in a safe and welcoming environment. Whether you’re a professional artist or yogi, or you’ve never picked up a paint brush, or stretched on a matt, there’s sure to be something inspirational for every skill level.

The art portion of our retreat, is about making time to experiment and capturing the inspiration you'll find by unplugging and exploring new surroundings. We'll meet as a group and talk about art journaling, personal creative aspirations, and share ideas about how to get unstuck. We’ll carry our sketchbooks along on our adventures and I encourage you to take notes and sketch throughout our week together. Travel journaling is a great way to document experiences and inspiration. The goal is to relax and allow yourself time to create, so you can translate your experience into new artwork at home, or have a whole journal of your sketches to remind you of your time in Mexico. Some materials will be provided for you, but a supply list will be posted as we get closer.

Conscious Breathing for Healing & Awakening

Studio PDX

Release the Physical, Mental, Emotional & Spiritual Blockages from Your Life

Throughout history, cultures worldwide have provided a means for people to access non-ordinary realms for healing and spiritual growth. Breathwork is a means of inducing an altered state of consciousness through full and connected breathing. An energy charge is created in the body, and as the energy disperses, it serves to release, or to cleanse blockages, both physical and emotional. Possible experiences include; resolution and release of current problems, unresolved childhood wounds, birth memories, past life remembrances and stored trauma in the body. Many also experience encounters with the divine, transcendence of time or space, direct experiences of the primordial vibration, deep peace, unconditional love and orgasmic states.

The process is gentle, safe, and loving and almost every person will have a deep moving experience. As an added benefit, Breathwork is quite healthy for the body. You will be conscious the whole time and totally in control. Please come prepared for immediate growth and a powerful experience.

Benefits can include
• Deepen a spiritual connection
• Dissolve stress and anxiety issues
• Release old baggage and disempowering beliefs
• Increased levels of awareness and intuition
• Heal emotional contributors to physical dis-ease
• Unblock the creative process
• Provide a safe and natural way to experience expanded states of consciousness
• And much more……..

***NOTE: Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or sleeping bag, blanket and pillow. It’s preferable not to eat for an hour prior. We will provide eye masks or you can bring your own.

It's yoga. We listen to metal. That's it.

The playlist is heavy and slow and deep (not harsh, not fast, it's like one big "OM") No experience necessary - come as you are.

Dropped down deep heavy tunes and poses suitable for any level, even total newbies — this is the yoga you have been waiting for!!

We meet at The People's Yoga in SE
**People's Yoga SE is moving to 4029 SE Hawthorne**
(Across from New Seasons)

This is a fully climate controlled studio that fits 40 with a pretty great sound system. Close to lots of places for hanging out afterwards. Street parking is generally easy to find in the back neighborhoods and the 14 bus stops right out front.

Thank you all for your continued support of these classes! Let’s keep growing and telling all our friends. Suggested donation for class is $5-15 (I have to pay for the space, even more now but it’s still manageable thanks to all of your awesome support) but no one turned away for lack of funds. Cash, card or PayPal. The space has mats and props but bring your mat if you have one.

This is not a The People’s Yoga partnered or supported event— please direct any inquiries here to me. The venue is simply the container for our awesomeness.

Climb for Clean Air: A Donation-Based Yoga Class

Yoga to You PDX

Please join us for an all levels flow in support of a great cause! This is a donation-based yoga class; your donations will support the American Lung Association in efforts to raise money for improved lung health and the prevention of lung disease. Our PNW climbers and fellow yogis, Candace Weisser and Ashley Wood, are dedicating their time and resources in an effort to climb Mount Ranier and raise funds for this worthy cause! Lauren Fields, owner of Yoga to You PDX, will guide you through an all levels flow for half of the class and transition into restorative shapes for the second portion.

"Climb For Clean Air is a mountaineering training and fundraising program designed to give individuals the training, technical support and guide service to summit a small selection of mountains in Oregon and Washington safely. The funds raised by the participants support the American Lung Association’s mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education and advocacy."

Advanced Yoga Series

Yoga to You PDX

Hello yoga teachers and advanced students! During these classes, we will be learning and practicing five advanced postures and their transitions. Please be mindful that the goal of this series is not to teach students necessarily, but for our own practice. Some of these techniques are far too advanced to bring into any large group setting that is not a dedicated teacher training. We will be learning to come into postures the traditional way, moving from the core. More will be discussed during our practice. If you are a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, you may earn 12 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)!
